How big is your "water footprint"?
According to H2O Conserve, the average American’s overall “water footprint” is 1,189 gallons of water per day, including the water used in the home, water used to produce food, energy and household products. The average American uses 50-70 gallons per day just on indoor household uses.
You can take simple steps to reduce the amount of water you and your family use by taking shorter showers, using the dishwasher and clothes washer for only full loads, or turning off the water while brushing your teeth, washing your hands or cleaning vegetables.
Fixing a leaky faucet can save 200 gallons of water a month! Insulating water pipes, installing water saving shower heads and faucets and using rain barrels to capture and reuse rain water are all great ways to reduce your water consumption.
