The Finance Department is responsible for all areas of financial administration, including budgeting, cash management, accounting, purchasing, earnings tax and financial reporting. The Finance Department earned a bond rating of Aa1 through Moody’s Investor Services in May 2003. According to Moody’s Investor’s Service, this rating was earned as a result of the “City’s affluent socio-economic profile, sizeable and mature tax base, sound financial operations, and moderate debt level”.
In addition, the City of Montgomery has continued to receive the Government Finance Officers Association’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 7th consecutive year. This award, earned by less than 10% of the nation’s municipalities, demonstrates a constructive spirit of financial disclosure to the community.
